“Mudik” Transportation Review: Train – JAKPAT Survey Report

Mudik” is an Indonesian term used for citing people’s homecoming trip for the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Whether we are muslims or not, whether we celebrate the Eid or not, there is this tradition in Indonesia where people are going back to their hometown during the holiday; a homecoming, or in Indonesian terms is famous as “mudik”. Regarding to this matter, recently JAKPAT has conducted a survey series in order to see the review of the “mudik” trip. In this part of the survey series, we focus with the review of the train transportation. Hence, all respondents in this survey were using “TRAIN” as the transportation mode for their latest mudik trip. This survey was conducted to 1541 respondents of JAKPAT. In Indonesia, the railways transportation is operated by only one major company completely owned by the government, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or in English called as the Indonesian Railways Company. In this survey report, the term “PT KAI” will be used to address the company.Apparently, most of the respondents rated the overall KAI ticketing system in this year’s “mudik” is better than last year.
