Survey on Horrific Picture on a Cigarette’s Package

This time, JAKPAT invited JAKPAT respondents in a survey on government regulation which urge all cigarette brands to put a horrific picture on the package of cigarette.

How will this regulation affect people’s habit in smoking? 

This survey conducted to 313 respondents who were active smokers. Most of them, 59.42% out of total respondents, smoked for more than five cigarettes a day, meanwhile there were those, 17.89% respondents, who smoked 2 – 3 cigarettes a day. Respondents smoked 4 – 5 cigarettes per day came with 15.97%. The rest, which was 6.71%, only smoked a cigarette per day.

This survey conducted in 4 hours. And to target Active Smokers we use JAKPAT targeting tools when creating a survey. For the most favorite brand, Sampoerna came on top, it was shown by 28.12% respondents chose this brand. Gudang Garam came in second, also looking to be respondents favorite, JAKPATers choosing this brand were 17.89% of them. Besides those two brands, Djarum Super and Marlboro came with 15.34%. Dji Sam Soe and Lucky Stricke came consecutively with 3.83% and 0.64%. The rest, 18.85% of respondents chose other brands; such as Dunhill, Wismilak, GG Mild, U Mild, Class Mild, Camel, etc.

Most of the respondents, as many as 85.15%, knew govt regulation (PP No 109/tahun 2014 dan Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan No. 28) about cigarette brands must put a warning of how dangerous smoking affects our health by attaching a horrific picture, only 11.85% of them who didn’t know this matter.

In addition, respondents responds that the horrific picture scared them a bit, but it didn’t affect much on their smoking habits. It shows that 36.42% of the respondents scared of it, but keep smoking. Eventhough, it was horrific, 34.19% of respondents didn’t get affected at all.

It was only 23.96% of respondents who smoked less after seeing the picture. The other way to avoid the picture was replacing the package, there are 4.15% respondents applied this way. There were not many of them who really quit smoking, based on the survey only 1.28% respondents who quit smoking after the regulation was applied.

Nonetheless, the horrific picture didn’t affect the needs of changing their cigarette brands, because 96.49% of the respondents stated they kept consuming the same brand.
